Club Sadowsky!!!

Mark...he will autograph the back of the headstock if you ask him.

Too late I'm afraid - it shipped yesterday! :atoz: :hyper:

 Hey!!! ...is that your bass that Roger is working on??

It sure looks a whole lot like the one that I just purchased that is "in the mail" to ME now.

here it is ...check it out:

There are a couple of differences, but basically that is the bass that was the inspiration for mine. The obvious difference is the colour (daphne blue vs sonic blue), the other differences are that mine has the universal PJ/JJ route and has Nordstrand pickups in PJ form - Sadowsky singles in JJ form.

Damn Mark, thats an awesome looking NYC P/J. Is that sonic blue or daphne blue?

Daphne Blue, but look closely at this photo, I think the Sadowsky name for this colour is actually "soldering iron blue" :

BTW you'd think with the price he charges, Roger could afford a slightly higher roof above his workbench. I mean, come on, look at the way the poor guy has to duck his head just to work on a bass! :D

Congrats again! Mark,

My PJs also have the JJ option, but my pickups are all Sadowsky. I'm sure that you have asked about the differences in tone between Sadowsky PJs and Nordstrand PJs.
Can you tell me how they compare? (Maybe Roger, Rob or Nino can chime in)

My understanding - although maybe an expert can jump in - is that this will be the first Sadowsky bass with Nordstrand P or J pickups in as stock. I am not sure this has previously been offered as an option (ie only the "big" Nordstrand pickups have been offered). I wanted to get a bass that really captured a vintage P vibe when I needed it, but in the shape of a modern down sized J body (sorry P fans, I just don't dig the P body). I understand that the NP4 pickup is one of the best sounding vintage P pickups out there so I asked whether I could have it fitted matched with an NJ4SV in the bridge and Sadowsky were nice enough to let me have it! :D I went with Sadowsky single JJ's for the JJ config to make sure that classic Sadowsky sound was still available!

The body is alder with brazillian rosewood FB and with the vintage colour finish I m really happy with the result of a blend between the vintage and modern look.

I've seen some 5 string Sadowskys with Nordstrand PJ, but maybe this is the first 4 string.
You sure got the vintage/modern look...and with the right number of strings!;)

Oh, you lucky bastard. :p That's about my dream pickup combination right there -- an amazing PJ setup that converts to Sadowsky single coils.

One of the reasons my NYC doesn't spend any time as a JJ is that I vastly prefer the singles to the HC pickups.

Enjoy.

The Toothless Wonder is here!!! :bassist:

I've been playing it for two hours non stop with BiaB songs and in spite of being marked as "Low Price" (see the atached photo) it plays and sounds like a million bucks.

I coulnd't be happier :hyper:

Fran,

Congrats....That is a great sounding/playing Fretless. {If I don't say so myself ;)}

I'm glad you went with the Tort Guards....

Rob

Rob,

Thanks! You've done a fantastic job. And it's here much earlier than what I had expected, so "happy" is not enough to express how I feel.

and yes, the tort guards look great with the ebony fingerboard.

Some thoughts after another hour of playing:

  • This bass KILLS!!!
  • I like the feel and tone of the Blue Label nickels. I need to try them on my fretted and hear them after a couple of days in the bass, but as soon as they are back in stock I'm going to order a 5 pack.
  • The Portabass is the definitive bag.

My two PJ VJ4's (excuse the light reflexions)

Oh my god....I completely get it now!

Anyone want to buy an ash/maple US Joe Osborn? :ninja:

The lights too poor to take any decent photos so that may have to wait until the weekend, but the tone of this bass just kills. I was a bit worried that it might sound a little "anemic" compared to the chambered MTD535, but not a chance...the Nordstrand P/J pickups are amazing and the preamp is so musical. I am in awe of this bass! :hyper:

PS. What is the name of the form fitted case with the zipper? I thought I ordered it but my bass came in a Access hard-case with a black interior that wasn't form fitted. Do all NYCs come in this case?

I think you might be referring to the Portabag? I think it's optional no-cost, as I recall. I think the zippered rectangular Sadowsky embroidered rigid case is still standard.
