Being a natural ash junkie, that's a bass I can see myself playing (its 4 string sibling); congrats!
Do all of the Sadowsky 5 string basses have the long string retainer on them? I am curious if all 5 string basses should have this style of retainer to create the proper downward string pressure past the nut. Does this retainer eliminate nut slot buzzing?

No, some customer over the years have requested the HipShot retainers.

Not necessarily. Some basses have enough pull past the nut, especially on the B and E that they do not require it but having it doesn't hurt.
It eliminated the rattle that may happen if there is not enough downward pressure past the nut.

It's a brazilian rosewood board that's very dark but really gorgeous close up.
I'm not the original owner, so it's possible that the board was darkened by linseed oil or something before I got it. The grain is amazing, but you have to look close up to see it, and it doesn't show well in pics, though it has some nice variation. Next time I change strings I'll try to snap a closeup of the board.
