Yeah, I know you've posted this before, but 1.) I can't remember all these off the top of my head, and 2.) It's NEVER bad to see another amazing Sadowsky pic, even if it is a repost.

Last question... when you play this, where is your right hand?

Depending on the tune, but most of the time my right hand fingers are over or close to the bridge PU.

For mellower stuff I tend to play close to the end of the neck for that fat growlly sound.

On my RV5-PJ, on the Jazz body, it's in the same place as my RV5-JJ, which is 60's, I believe...

I asked this question when I was in the Sadowsky shop a month ago or so. The standard is 60s placement...BUT...you could order a custom NYC bass and specify 70s placement on the J pickup. As far as the Metros go this is not an option.

Yes, that's exactly what I bought and love it! My above post was in reference to P/J setups I should have qualified that!

I pretty much stopped buying basses once I had this Sadowsky 5. I sold all the other basses I had, I just have a couple of G&L's as backups/less expensive basses I can use for certain bars...and I'm getting a Zon fretless and that's about it. Everyone I play with loves the tone of it, and so do I!

Well, I've decided to actually take your (everone's) advice and try the single coils instead of changing the pre. I don't need another bass, (2) is enough for me. I really like the UV70 I just wanted a "tweek" in the tone. It sounds like I can achieve this by swapping out to single coils. I'll give it a try. Sc's are on the way!

Did the neck profile change between the time the NAMM Metros were built and final production? The neck on my NAMM MV4 feels slightly more substantial than my production RV4, but I'm probably crazy.

When I got my NYC PJ5 last week I swapped the silver knobs with my Metro PJ5's black knobs. I thought it made the Metro look that much cooler and wanted to share!

P.S. That Metro is now FS!!

Dave I feel the same about mine. If I get something else it will be Sadowsky jazz bass. Mine is a 24/5 Modern and yes I sold off everything. I only use my Modern and have gotten only one complaint in 2 years. Play on Brother!

Here are my thoughts...


if you really want low mid grunt and you don't mind losing more of the classic J tone for something a bit more generally "modern" sounding (sorta'), the PJ is a great solution. That P pickup imparts a great earthy mid character to the sound, and even if you're not a P guy, try soloing that pickup sometime. I'm pretty sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well it "works".

I'm a recent UVPJ4 ash/maple owner. My Jpup is in the 70's position and I have to fatten it up like Vic said. The P pup is very cool for sure +1 on that. Now.. I might get laughed right off TB, but my new to me has a P-body and P-neck and to me it sounds more like a regular P-bass then the PJ4 I once owned with a jazz body and jazz neck ... Ok, I have my fire-suit on.
