when looking at the bass in natural light, the darker elementsof the 'burst look more like a caramel than cherry, but it is beautiful either way.

I also think it may caramel because the old threads here at tb have the some original owner's comments when he got it from Sadowsky, andhe describes it as caramel.

Hey, was this one being sold on CL in North Carolina? If it was, seriously nice looking bass...body was listed as basswood, but I figured that was wrong...

No! That guy ripped me off on a $25 pickguard he sold as a Sadowsky Metro Vintage pickguard, which didn't come close to fitting my Metro Vintage. He refused to make it right so I had to dog him out in public...avoid, avoid, avoid. Total slimeball.
The bass I got tonight came from a very nice, very honest cat named Seth Glassman. I should invite him onto TB to class the place up a little. :p I talked to Roger who checked the book to confirm it was basswood, but as I remember the conversation wasn't sure why he used basswood. That was a bad day so I could be wrong. Glad he built the bass as he did.

Yep, mine too! They are great feeling necks those older Sadowsky's. I prefer the thinner necks myself. When I had my fretless built last year, the neck was shaped based off of the measurements Roger took off the neck of my '88.

It's odd but my early RV4 has a neck that is similar to what you guys are talking about. I love it.

BUT I do love the neck on my later NYC JJ4 also.

That's funny. The neck on my RV4 (s/n 1381) was nice and slim, where the neck on my prototype MV4 feels decidedly clubby near the nut, at least compared to the RV4. This bass smokes them both. In fact, the only two basses I've ever played with necks this thin and dainty have been a '60 Jazz and a Vigier with a graphite neck. Both felt like yardsticks with strings on them.

Great looking bass! Use it in good health as my Mom would say!

Does that bass have a active/passive control. I know on the older ones like mine there is a mini toggle, but I do not see one on yours.

Does your headstock have some extra writing on the back like mine?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. And yes, it is tangerine orange in person.
Ken--negative. No writing and the serial number is in a different font and very small type. Roger knows the guy and vouched for the bass so I know it's legit.
Also negative on the mini toggle. The former owner likes the passive J sound and claims Roger wired it different and installed EMGs. He later removed the electronics so the bass is now passive VVT with a dummy knob and Duncan Antiquities. Sounds just like a Jazz Bass should.

Hi John, yes your old Oly RV4. I just love the neck on that bass. I was talking to Bart about it and he was saying that he thinks that the neck has something to do with the tone of that bass. It is VERY mid forward tonally. Much more than what one would expect from an alder/morado bass with HC pickups. But still very different than my ash/maple NYC JJ4 with SC's.

I was just listening to some old Iron Maiden and noticed that Steve Harris' tone sounded a lot like what I get from that Oly RV4.

Shawn, THAT is a beautiful bass! Congrats! I've always liked the look of your LPB RV4 but it doesn't hold a candle to your new beauty. I just know that the photos don't begin to do that bass justice too.

I really like to see/hear when good things happen to super people like you. Now just play the dickens out of that bass.:D
