I've got a questions about Sandberg's Hardcore Aged basses...
Love the look of the bodies and the hardware, but when I look at the back of the necks, they don't seem to be sanded or "aged" like the rest of the instrument.
Am I just seeing pics with bad lighting, or are the necks themselves not aged? I would actually prefer that the back of the neck be aged to match the rest of the instrument.
For example here's the back of a medium relic Nash:

It doesn't appear to have any relic'ing done to the neck at all.
Can any of you Sandberg owners confirm that this is how all relic'd Sandbergs are, or maybe it's a special request that needs to be made at the Custom Shop?

My California Hardcore Reserve has relic on the neck back side. However, on Masterpiece relic, they also relic the fingerboard (next to other differences). Here is the pic of my neck.

Yes. I've seen high gloss finish Sandbergs where the body was vibration and heat treated like a masterpiece but obviously looked brand new... that idea appeals to me more than a masterpiece.
Looks more realistic than Nash, in my opinion.

Hi everyone! Could you guys chime in who plays or ever had experience with Forty Eight basses? My main question is about balance on strap, are they as bad as the other Tbird shaped basses? I am planning to use it for pick playing mostly. Thanks for your input.
I have just ordered a 48.
I am not anti-Gibson at all, in fact I am a bit of a Gibson sympathizer. I was fully prepared to buy a Gibson and wanted to like the Gibson RD and Thunderbird but wasn't happy with the balance.
The 48 is better balanced than the usual Tbirds, and has a better bridge and a punchy P bass style split coil pickup hiding behind the neck pickup cover.
Decision made.

I am totally with you about the pickups, I’ve checked the same configuration with VM5 and liked it a lot, just curious about the possible neck dive issue with 48.
I liked the looks of the 48, so I found a store that had a couple of those and went there to try these basses.
The neck felt great, the bass sounded great, but it didn't feel that great.
The balance is off, this thing still neck-dives (with that shape it's going to be difficult to improve), and the neck feels long because of the position of the strap button. It was not too bad, actually, compared to EB0/3 and Thunderbirds, but it just doesn't balance well and it was a lot of money for something that had those 'flaws'.
Two days later I made an order for a VM4, with the neck profile of one of the Forty Eight basses.
If balance is an important issue... the Forty Eight is not a great bass, despite looking amazing.
All depends what you like - I don’t mind the bass a bit lore horizontal, but I wouldn’t call it a proper dive, it just sits a bit more horizontal.

Agreed - the 48 seems to have a natural hanging position that is not "Fender standard" but I wouldn't call it neck dive. Overall, I think it is better balanced than the other Tbird shaped basses out there and Sandberg have done a good job to address that obvious point of concern. A decent proportion of my gigging work is on acoustic bass... now that's proper neck dive.
