The Sandberg bag that comes with the bass is nice but it's not much better than your standard padded gigbag. I use a Fusion F1, which I prefer to the Mono ones (more comfortable, for me, and better storage as well as equal or better protection). The F1 is not in production anymore but the Urban model is very similar.

What bothered me about the 48 wasn't so much the dive (it's true, the ones I tried balanced better than other T-bird style basses) but the fact that the strap button is so far down the neck that the neck feels very very long. If I don't look at the neck, I keep hitting the wrong frets... which I could get used to, no doubt, just like one gets used to 5 strings, but the first frets are a good 2 inches farther away than usual and I find that tiring. ON basses like that I seem to end up pushing the bass sideways to the right so that the neck is not that 'long', and it's not a fun way to play for any length of time beyond a handful of songs. I just don't feel like putting up with something like that only because it's pretty. The VM4 has a very similar pickup configuration and has none of those issues. Not as cool, I admit it, but... not exactly a boring bass either ;)

Disclaimer: I'm not a big guy, so someone with longer arms may not feel the 48 is as bad as I do.

I have Monkey Arms so I don’t mind.
Normally I am not a massively picky about my necks, recently I have started to get funny, probably as I am trying to sing and play and really cannot look down so I can see how it throws you off.

so far as bags @mcnach is spot on. Provided soft gigbag is OK, the inbetween harder softcase is pretty good with decent pockets.
Mono as we all know are great, and I have a Fusion double gig bag which is great but does sit quite high so practice squats getting through doors! With these high quality ones, it’s purely preference the difference is so small

Just recently switched over to using Sandberg Cali basses for my gigs. Really liking them! The ergonomics fit me like a glove: a shorter reach to the first fret and a natural balance with the neck pointed up a bit help my arthritic shoulders quite a lot.

Here's a livestream of a radio show taping we did a couple weeks ago. That's one of my two VM-5s, the one with the pau ferro board. Just this past week I received a TM-5 with Delano pups. Been setting it up and letting the neck get used to the truss rod adjustment; will take it on a gig next week.

The music starts about 1:30 into the video.

It's strongly reminiscent of a Panther body, but with a Basic pickguard and a Seymour Duncan pickup. You could probably custom order a Panther with a special request for a Basic pickguard and a single MM pickup of your choice (Black Label, Delano...lots of tasty options!).

My latest Sandberg took 11 months (TM4 with gloss finish, no ageing). CITES certification and shipping issues contributed a month or so to the total, but my understanding is that CITES regulations are being revised to make international trading easier in the future.

Apologies if this has been asked before... I'm torn between a VM4 and TM4... Do they actually sound like their respective Fender counterparts (P and J) or are they each their own seperate animal? Anyone have/played both who might be able to suggest why they prefer one over the other? There are none locally (New England) for me to test out. Thanks a ton!!

Not exactly what you are looking for but I have a TM2 in NH
