Yes, before the overly bright high end of the Delano’s my string of choice is the DR Blue Steels 45-100. I was thinking of trying the legends but they are only available in 45–105 and Im particular about my E string being .100

Just picked up a Lionel P, Short-scale. I’ve played the super lights before, this one is quite heavy at 8.5lbs, but it plays and feels perfect.
Love the Ash body. All the weight feels in the body, so it balances perfectly. Zero complaints!! These short P’s are a hidden gem!!

Wow! The grain on that ash body is stunning. Good find. I know 8.5 lbs isn't "super" light but still a nice weight.
Doesn't feel heavy at all, for some reason. Also, the body is small and contoured enough fit snugly against me. Zero neck-dive, in fact, it may be the opposite. Neck-rise... Lol.
That's one of the things that I really notice when I play my TM4. When I play it, everything just fits and feels comfortable. I don't notice anything uncomfortable after playing it for long sets.

The weights are really different. My full sale (top bass) and the 3 tone Lionell (bottom) weigh almost the same. So go figure, but all play great.

Hi. I recently purchased a Sandberg California VM4. I'd like to know wich tone would you use more in the VM4.
The M pickup doesn't really sound as a Ray, and the V pickup doesn't sound as a P as well, although they sound very good.
With the M position I have massive lows but I miss some more mids and presence, mainly in the G and D strings.
With the V position I have better mids and lows.
In the mid position (both p-ups) the sound is pleasant but way too full and fat. Maybe I setup the pick-ups too high?
I like the three positions, but none of them is perfect for me. Maybe the problem is I am looking for a perfect tone in the three, instead of choosing just one position and adjust the height and Eq for this sound. This is what I do in a jazz bass, a Precision or a Ray: ask just for one great sound and that's all.
Wich position / pickup do you use the most? Do you usually play in the same position?
And by the way... How high do you set your pickups? When I set them high I love the tone of each coil separately, but in the mid positions sounds too fat and low. If a lower the coils, I get a full and nice sound in the mid positions but lack of low end when use separately. Impossible to find a setup great for all three positions.

For those of you who play a Sandberg 5 string, can you describe the neck profile a bit. It's been a while since I played one but I recall the neck to be quite comfortable for me. Kind of reminded me of a Stingray 5 neck, perhaps a tad wider maybe. Or is it more reminiscent of a Fender Jazz 5 string?
Spot on. Closer to StingRay neck, a little wider and more flat radius. But it is fast and can be set up low .
Thank you! I've been contemplating getting back into a 5 string and considering my options but the neck is going to be a big factor. I do recall liking the Sandberg 5 neck when I tried is out a while back and I know I love the Stingray 5 neck.

Yes, I agree. A little wider, somewhere between a C and D shape (maybe closer to C) and a flat radius. I find it the perfect shape for me.
Does anyone here play a Sandberg medium scale? I’m partial to medium scale basses, and I’d like to get some opinions.
What's a "medium scale"? 35"? I'm haven't paid attention to any other scale lengths of Sandberg's than the one I have which is 34". Be that as it may, I'm not aware of a longer scale Sandberg.
You might want to contact Sandberg. If you are unsuccessful in getting a response from Germany I can give you the local Chicago rep's email address.
Medium scale is in between short and long scale, usually about 32”. Sandberg has made a few of them, but they seem to be rare. I saw one that had been listed for sale on TB but it was already sold. The option for medium scale is not on the configurator on Sandberg’s website, so I guess you have to contact them directly if you want them to build one.
As a rule of thumb, unless something has fundamentally shifted, any 'off-menu' option can be requested through an authorized Sandberg dealer and they'll accommodate and account for it in the bass's pricing, if need be. The process is the same as ordering any custom-made Sandberg (which really, the ones stocked by dealers are custom-made to whichever specifications they wanted to order and keep in stock).
Just wondering.. have the chance to purchase a California jj4 for 850. Everything's good except a gouge at the bottom back. Small dings and nicks I can deal with, but this gouge is making me hesitate on purchasing. Even with the blemish, is the price still worth the bass? It's a 2013 jj4 with glockenklang preamp Delano pups, active/passive.

If the instrument sounds great and plays great, it's perfect to me!
