Thanks! I'm currently using EB Cobalt flats on the Elektra but I'll try these when it's time to change strings.
I was surprised and unhappy with the sound of my TM4 until I put LaBella Flexible flats on it. When the time come to change the I will try the 45-100 chromes too
LaBella flats make any bass sound better, IMHO. And they last for ages. You might be waiting a while before they need to be changed!
FWIW, I cycled through Chromes on most of my basses, being mostly happy with them. I have since settled on Fender lightweight flats on both my fretted and fretless TM4s. My fretted TM4 has had the same set of Fender flats for close to 8 years and gets a lot of use.
Give Labella Olinto flats a try, I like them a lot - they seem a bit more present.

Who’s “they” ? Where did you buy it? I’m curious about the cost because I sent mine into a company that does large scale 3-D printing, and I got what I assume is a sample price (for companies to see if they want their product mass produced). It only cost me $10 bucks and I’d be happy to ship this one off to somebody For 15 total… Including a couple of inches of double sided sticky . If anybody sees this and knows somebody who would like a TM4 thumb rest for 15 bucks, PM me.

I haven't been able to find the answer to this question through search, so: which model of drop D tuner would I need for a VS4 Electra? Also, if I wanted more flexibility by adding a multi-position lever to be able to go lower than D, would I need to be using any particular kind of strings? I've swapped tuners on another bass before, so I'm comfortable doing the mod.

On my Ken Taylor model I've tried some DR Black Beauties. They were a fail. Also D'Addario NYXL's 45-130. Not bad. I haven't tried the Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, but now that they are $59 for a 5 string set that will be a pass though I could try a "used" set when they come off of my Yamaha.
Right now I have the 40-128 set however I am now using a 45 in that set instead of the 40 having cannibalized the 45 from a 4 string set I bought so I could have the 45. I think the 45 is better suited to the other strings in the 40-128 set.
A couple of posts up I mentioned that I was unhappy with the tone of my TM4 out of the box. I'm using Labella flexible flats and things have changed quite a bit. I really love the sound of them.
On my TT-5 Superlight, I've been very happy with DR Fat Beams and High Beams. They're both great and I love Fat Beams generally, but on the Sandberg I think the High Beams might provide better balance so I prefer them slightly. Both 45-125, and both a big upgrade over the OEM strings IMO.
I might try the new DR/Fodera strings too. Years ago, I used a set of Fodera strings on my G&L JB. They were fantastic, and DR are generally my favorites, so I have high expectations for the collaboration.
Thanks you all for your input. I also feel that the 0.40 string is a little weak when I slap. I have a couple of Daddario 43-127 steel sets that I bought for my Lorita bass. They don’t fit at all with that bass so I will try them on the tm5. DR strings are good have them on my FSC jazz.
