Club Sandberg (part 2)

Oh man how I love these basses, only basses I have GAS for these days, drooling all over, best jazz bass and P bass sound I have ever heard, I supose Delanos have big impact on this. Tell me how are you satisfied with Delanos, I'm interested in big poles P pickup? ;)

OK, I'm really GAS'ing for a Sandberg bass for a while now, and I think I'm going to treat myself.

I've narrowed my search to a TT5 or a TT5 PASSIVE. I'm usually more into passive instruments, but I would like to know your opinions please.

Also, as I want a 5er, is a 35" scale really better with Sandberg, or I'm fine with 34"? Usually prefer the comfort of 34"...

I ordered a soft-aged tobacco sunburst TM4 way back in July. It should be arriving very, very soon.

I don't know if anyone else has had the same experience, but Sandberg hasn't provided any updates on my order status. My local Sandberg distributor assures me everything is fine, but I am finding that living with the gnawing agony of anticipation is killing me. I can only hope it is worth the wait! I have been told that Fender Custom Shop is better at giving status updates, but they are so much more "mainstream". Sandberg's quirky aloofness is kind of punk rock cool, even if it is frustrating.

Holger, if you're listening, I love your work. But it would be nice if you could send one or two progress photos during the build process.

I have a TT5 with a 35 inch neck and active preamp. Delano p'ups Glockenklang pre. I absolutely love it! Honestly, it sounded pretty much the same in active vs. passive, just louder naturally. The Glock pre is very polite and airy. Didn't get much bark out of it. Not sure what pre they are using now though. The Glock died and I put an Audere 4 band in. Night and day difference. It's a tone beast now!

Thanks for the follow-up!

I think I'm more into a passive TT5... Also, I noticed that the maple fingerboard is only available on 34" scale... I always prefered maple fb, so that might solve the problem of deciding between 34 and 35...

I'm going through the same process with (the arguably much more quirkily aloof) Dingwall. Good things come to those who wait:).

I have a Sandberg California TT4 (or JJ4 not sure), I can't find which Hipshot D tuner will fit my bass. I've sent emails to Sandberg and Hipshot repeatedly, and received no replies. Anyone out there know?

dude....just dude....im usually a black bass only guy, but this thing is so freaking beautiful. i currently own 2 sandbergs but am looking for a 3rd. so youre getting a p-bass tone out of those jazzies? activeor passive?

The Umbo is passive only. It has a 3 position varitone-like switch (settings are 1 bypass-2 mid cut-3 motown/dirty mids) The Motown setting with just the front pickup on sounds very P-like but even in bypass with the tone rolled off to halfway it gets there IMO. It does good jazz tones too including an awesome Jaco.
The Umbo can seem to react to certain strings though, including the stock Sandberg ones, resulting in a nasal tone. DR Highbeams/Fat beams, D'addario XL's,TI Superalloy and LaBella 760FL's and other flats (not 760FS though) sound good but not GHS Pressurewound or TI Jazz Flats. These are just ones I've tried obviously.
Anyone trying an Umbo in a shop should bear this in mind.
