Club Sandberg (part 2)

Hello guys,

Longtime poster under a different username, went away for a while, forgot password and rejoined!

Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you had encountered the problem I'm having with my Sandberg VM5.

It has the Haussel PUs with the normal 2 band EQ, however it keeps cutting out. By cutting out I mean absolutely no output to my rig - utter silence. It seems to happen more after extended and heavy playing though it does happen with minimal playing too. Indeed, when on tour last year it managed to cut out at almost the exact same point 4 songs into the set every night. I initially thought it was my wireless messing up (the bass was brand new) however over extended testing it is definitely a problem with the bass. This is kind of gutting because I shifted my Spector to buy this and I absolutely love how it sounds and plays. It is hands down the best sounding bass I have ever owned.

Tried the normal stuff (battery, cables etc). Took it to a very well respected shop here in the UK (Manson's) who very kindly had a quick look for free and couldn't identify anything immediately wrong (and of course it also worked perfectly when they ran it through an amp). This is really perplexing because when it works, it's phenomenal, however I just can't rely on it.

Anyways, any insight would be greatly appreciated. In terms of playing style I play with fingers and do dig in quite deep but I've never encountered this problem with any other bass. Thanks!

I'd think the preamp or possibly the pick ups are to blame. And since it's a new bass, just let the Sandberg guys sort it out. They are extremely helpful and quick about things like this.

I have question about setting up my sandberg. In our band we play drop C# tuning. So I want to set my sandberg up with the right strings etc. But for me a zero fret is something new and I have some concerns about it. I know sandbergs zero frets are nodged so does this mean that I'll need to adjust the zero fret for bigger gauges?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy myself a VM5, since I love the P/MM combo. I just don't know if a Basic or California model. I must confess I'm not really into these common "Fender" body shapes, so the Basic visually attracts me more... also, it has 24 frets and better access to the high register. I compared the two basses' videos from Sandberg's YouTube channel with MarloweDK playing them, and found the California tone to be superior, but I have the impression that the Basic VM5 they used had dead strings.

Does the Basic's smaller body means less weight and consequently poorer tone?

Also, how is the B strings in these basses? I've been looking for a defined, heavy and fat B string for a while.

Hi fellow Sandberg players out there. Does anyone happen to know if California VS and TT series have same necks on them? I have a VS4 (passive) and now I have a slight case of GAS for TT (passive) and I love the idea that both basses have identical neck profiles.
