I'm really digging the jj plus p pickup config so far. It definitely opens up a huge variety of usable tones. I would recommend it to almost anyone.

Excellent! I'm planning on setting this up to have 2 vintage sounding J pickups in the 60's position with their type 3 pickup next to the bridge J on the bridge side. In theory, the adjacent type 3 pickup should get close to a 70's position sound.

I just need to revise my specs to add midi. Hmmm, I should get on that this week.

You should be honored to know this pic is the background on my desktop at work for the week. ;)

- One custom wound Aero pickup, placed in the 'sweetspot'. Chris said it will be an 'oversized' dual coil pickup that captures all range of frequencies' every detail... Can't wait to hear the sound of that...
- NO Electronics of whatsoever... The pickup will be wired straight to an output jack located at the body side...

This all all awesome sounding. I can't wait to hear a clip of it! And I LOVE that there are no electronic guts in it!

Thanks... The Bass is not in my hands right now. I sent it back home overseas, I'll be going back there too next month. I'll miss it :crying:

I did post a clip in one of my post I believe.

I must say My gas for a Stammies has come to a head. I have to contact Chris about building a Single cut 5 with a wide neck 19mm. I'm going with:

1. Spalted maple top or Chestnut burl- Matching headstock
- Full African mahogany back (no stringers thru back)
2. (wide) 3 pc neck maple/wal/maple- 34" scale- 10mm at nut (black) 16mm at 24th fret
3. Mac Ebony fboard
4. Tung oil finish
5. modified upper bout (connecting at 14th fret)
5. (5) knob config P/P passive/active vol, blend, bass, mid, treb
6. s/p switches (2 black)
7. Hipshot A style bridge (black)
8. Hipshot Ultralight tuners (black)
9. Black mac Ebony knobs
10. Flush mount dunlop strap locks (black)
11. Dual battery box

I'm thinking stock Nordstrand DC series pickups (Mac ebony wood covers exposed poles) I have not decided on a pre yet. Maybe the Mike Pope. I want thick but clear/clean modern type tone to compliment my Smith EG. Hopefully I can have the bass by my birthday in August. :bassist:

I was thinking about putting midi in mine as well... not sure though. I have a July build date so another month and a half to decide uhhhg.

Heres what I'm thinking of going for so far. I'm a really skinny guy (6'1 125lbs !) So main concern right now is a getting a lighter bass than my marcus miller which is like right at 10lbs maybe 9.8.

Hello!

Interesting thread!

I believe I am the proud owner of one of two 8-string (octave coursed) basses created by Chris Stambaugh.

Bass was custom made for me in 1999. I love this instrument more than any other bass I've owned or played.

Sorry for the poor quality pics - lets hope this works!
