Took the plunge and put down my deposit today.

bolt-on 3 piece maple neck with deep cut extended heel for full access to upper frets
pau ferro fretboard
Nordstrand NJ single coils
Nordstrand 2 band pre-amp
60's jazz pickup spacing
16.5mm string spacing at the bridge
chrome hardware

Nice! 16.5mm string spacing..I should have gone there I told him 17mm for my 5 string soloist.

my stammy was due in august but Chris got a little behind, the wait is killing me!

I got my Fossil last week. It's the alder one up on his site. You can see pics a page back or on his website. It's my 2nd Stambaugh. I had Chris build me a bass about 3 years ago. Custom everything, 5 string E-C with Aero buckers and an Audere pre. I now primarily play more rock oriented stuff and needed a passive beast. This thing is amazing. I was impressed with Chris's build quality 3 years ago, but the fossil isn't just impressive, it's perfect. Between my 2 Stambaughs, I've got every tone I need. I sold my other basses off over the last couple of weeks. Down to just the Sambaughs. No remorse at all.

yes, this is what I like reading after placing an order with a builder who's basses I've never seen or played in person.

Yep! That bass belongs to scotts42 here at TB. I even sent him a message asking him about it because Chris did not want to do one for me. Here was his response hopefully he doesn't mind me sharing it!:

"First of all, thanks for the kind words on the bass.

I told Chris what I was looking for and he found it for me, against his will. Chris does not like Buckeye for a few reasons that he could better explain to you. But the main one is that buckeye is very light and thins out the low end. I do love my bass but, wish I would have listened to him on that.

I do not remember the upcharge but, I think it was around $450.

What ever you do listen to Chris on what he suggest, he has your best interest (and tone) at heart.

-Scott"

Because it was quite dirty..The original tung oil finish had worn down and it was very dull. Not a compliment to the wood at all. Don't worry, I didn't change any of the countours. Just a good sanding to bring out the clean wood. I put a thin poly finish on it. It looks great. I can't get photos up now. I am having trouble with photo bucket. It won't accept any uploads. I will get photos when i figure what's up.
