thanks for the review - now i'm more anxious than ever for the 22nd to get here. it's funny how almost every clutch fan says the same thing (regardless of whatever instrument they might play), "can't wait to see j.p. gaster". he is just an awesome drummer and like all the members of clutch, a perfect fit in the band. this will be the first time i've ever seen them live (and the first concert i've been to since springsteen in 2000), and i'm sure it'll be pure rock fury.

i'll keep an eye on my son during mbd. i've read elsewhere the cellist is quite good and real easy on the eyes.

I found Clutch some two years ago. I have to admit I still can't listen to the stuff before Blast Tyrant for too long. I actually started with Slow Hole, then moved on to each successive album and I was amazed every time I had listened to a new album. I also had some little appreciation for the older stuff, but it just sounds a bit annoying to me now so I never touch that stuff.

For me, their best album would easily be Robot Hive/Exodus. I often start from about halfway through the album, with the instrumentals and Circus between them.

Blast Tyrant was for some time even better for me, but I don't know why some of the material on it has kinda acquired some of that "old clutch" vibe to me now and I more often go for RHE.

The new album was good for a while, just because it was new and so on but I think it's a bit, uh, faceless or flat or howshouldIsayit now..it just wore out really quickly. I saw Clutch live on the Beale Street tour in Finland, I was SO amazed to find Clutch coming to Finland. I thought it was a good show, with that rocker dude on the harp and all =D Also, I felt a bit superficial about it but I so enjoyed the set list because there wasn't a single song from before Blast Tyrant...only thing Neil did was that "a-haa-ahaa-haa" thing from Careful with that mic at the beginning of a jam that turned into some totally different song =D

Went last night to see 'em in Raleigh.
Had front row in the balcony basically looking down onto the band.
Unbelievable stuff.
Opened with Gravel Road and the fun never stopped.
Escape from the Prison Planet, Profits of Doom, Elephant Riders, Yeti and Electric Worry were real personal highlights.
Their encore was Shogun and the placed literally erupted.

JP Gaster might be the best rock drummer I've ever seen - flawless groove.
Their lead, Tim Sult is incredible - a master of wah.
Dan Maines is rock solid on bass, and plays off JP perfectly. Some great solo stuff.
Neil Fallon is, well....Neil Fallon - he looks like he enjoys what he does for a living.

Something about this band is amazing - they've got a real unassuming magic to them.

My 14 yr old is still thanking me - it was his first concert and "the best thing he's ever experienced". (I need to get him out more).

If you get a chance, go see these guys, an awesome live band.

Murder By Death opened for them and they were quite good. Kinda Blaster-esque

Bump that ****, Clutch have made such an amazing body of work over the last almost 20 years and Dan Maines' has layed down bass lines that equal the best players of his time.
I listen to "Clutch" (1995) an hear the smoothest lines of the 90's. I will be watching them in a small venue in Australia next month and can't wait.

I've seen them 3 times and never been disappointed. Dan can play better than he does, and that's the only problem I have. Last time I saw them, the opening bands were Wino and Lionize (who featured Tim Sult on guitar). Both those bands were the same way... Bassists could could ABSOLUTELY tear it up like madmen, but didn't. I'm also a little bummed out about how they don't play the most obscure vintage equipment they can find anymore. Dan is playing Laklands now.
