CN 2x12 ate my amp

Well, I plugged my Traynor YBA1-mod1 into the CN 2x12 and it made a dying "pooooo......" sound. All that was left was very faint heavily distorted flapping. Back to the guitar cab and the head works fine. Checked cables, inputs, outputs, 8 and 4 ohm settings on head and same again. Talked to Yorkville this morning and they have no idea. The cab sounds fine with my TH500, head is fine with a guitar cab hooked up so I think I'm missing something real simple and stupid. The only difference is that the YBA has 1/4" speaker outs and the TH500 is speakon which I made sure to unplug from the cab before plugging the YBA in. Thanks

Then basically the only thing left In the chain is the cabs crossover/filters. Outside chance of something being screwy there that the tube amp doesn't like but doesn't bother the SS amp, like a very high Impedance spike.

You'd find out by temporarily removing the tweeter and all filters from the circuit and just wiring the woofers up to a jack.

I assume you're just going 1 amp--> cable--> cab, and not having the other amp or cables connected while testing?

Other possibility is that this Is coincidence and there is some problem with the amp that doesn't show itself consistently, just hit-n-miss, kind of like how your car runs great at the mechanics shop but dies at your house.

Those sort of problems are the hardest to track down.

Seeing as it's under warranty, I'd try it a couple more times with your various cabs to make sure the problem is indeed isolated to that one cab.

If in doubt, exchange the amp for another one.

If the new amp does the same thing, then I'd say there is something up with the cab.

Possibly a bad 1/4-inch input jack? Pull the jack plate and take some pictures to post here. I had distortion in an Avatar cab that was due to cold solder at the input jack which didn't affect the Speakon jack.
