Cobalt Flats 40-95 - Ridiculously Good!

Holy Enchiladas!!!!

I tried cobalt flats a couple of years ago but the D string snapped out of the package. After the replacement also snapped I gave up.

Fast forward to today. Decided on a whim (while at Guitar Center) to give them another try. Went with the lightest gauge I could find (40 -95’s).

Holy smokes! What a beautiful deep tone with airy highs.

I’m sold! :hyper:

What do you like them on?

VM Squier Jazz here. Aerodyne was a close second.

I love 'em. 45-105 on my 84 Foundation. They have been on the bass for 9 years.
They are starting to look pretty rough/distorted where they contact the frets. Gonna have to change them real soon. A little bummed, they take quite a while to settle in and get remotely thumpy.

I bought a light set by mistake but a good one because they gave my Guild Starfire II a new lease on life. Just the right pudding, not to bright not too dark. I have the med lt set on an 82 Carvin, a Jack Cassady, and a Reverend Dub King. Only regular flats (LTF) I use are on a Sterling Ray 5 because of punchy ray sound.

I'm considering putting cobalt flats on either my US SUB 5 or Dimension Deluxe H.
The SUB has that classic 2EQ sizzle, so it may be better served with the Cobalts.
The Dimension is Stingray adjacent, but is more mid forward and requires pretty radical onboard EQ adjustments to approximate the 2EQ tonality.

I would totally agree, the only flats I use and I am a round wound guy. Low tension, sound like rounds, no zingy and last a long time, going on two years on my portamento and still have some brightness. I tried Steve Harris flats and couldn't believe how tight they were, those lasted about 15 minutes and were removed.
