Not a coffee fan, it's overpriced brown water to me. My antipathy was reinforced during my table-waiting days when I worked brunch shifts: "I want half-decaf, half-caf" "You didn't leave enough room for me to pour in five creamers" "Why didn't you come by with the pot?" "Your cup was half full" "But I wanted a warmup!" "Please pour this last half out, I want a fresh cup"

All this for 15% on a buck or two. There are a lot of pain-in-the-ass coffee drinkers out there.

Oh, and what's with the "I can't join you yet, I can't do anything until I've had my coffee"? Jeez, nut up./rant

Started drinking coffee daily years ago while in the service. Like to grind my own beans and brew strong with no filter get to the bottom and see the silt. Drink it black unless it's pollen season then I'll put a little bit of local honey in each cup. Other then that hot and black from centro America. Sometimes I'll be lazy and just reheat yesterday's brew too.

Current studies are showing coffee has beneficial qualities and some every day is good for you. There is still disagreement on how much. I watched two doctors agruing. One said 3 to 5 cups a day, the other said up to 10. The did both agree that at some point, it can be overdone.

As for me, a doctor once asked me how much coffee I drink. My response was, "How much is there?"

My coffee habit is boundless. I am a product of my grandparents upbringing for sure. As far back as I can remember they always had a pot of coffee on. I'm the same way. I get my 3 liters of water a day and probably an equal amount ( or near enough as makes no difference ) in coffee. I drink it black. None of that flavored crap.

Okay I have and excuse to for a grumpy rant first thing in the morning but you don't even drink coffee. Yeesh what a grouch.

I'm a middle-aged Swede. What do you expect?

I peaked at 20 cups per day. That would be about 2.5 litres (or 2/3 US gallons) of black drip. Sleeping wasn't an issue, but my stomach was slightly perturbed. Quit cold turkey, which went surprisingly well. Last cup on Friday, Saturday was nothing special and Sunday was agony. After that: all good. After 3 months I got back in the swing. Today it'll typically be about 10-12 cups /day, though I try to keep the evenings clean.

I'll have a big cup if I'm going to be outside in buttazz cold for a while, or if I must drive a while and begin to feel groggy. In either case I become zipper boy and can't shut up. I would prefer to be carving lots of monkeys out of soap but with much effort I keep focused on the task at hand although I'll occasionally need to be peeled off the ceiling. Oddly enough I can drink cold tea and (sugarless) soda with caffeine and it will buzz me up ever so slightly, but not near to the degree a cup of hot coffee will. If I have a couple glasses of tea I won't feel buzzed so much as I feel nasty when the caffeine is done running through my system. Even as a young kid, I would get all wound up when my gramps would give me coffee. Add the fact I really do not care for the taste of any coffee I've ever had and it's pretty much a no thanks for me.

Oh and BTW, I have a friend who does research for the FDA on the addictive potential of yet to be approved prescription drugs. The standard they use for comparison? Caffeine and nicotine. Don't recall which is one and which is two on the potential to hook you scale, but both are legal and both are available for the asking while the drugs they are being used as the standard for comparison of their addictive potential are highly regulated and only with a scrip, provided they pass FDA muster.

I drink coffee all through the day. I just add a little milk to cut the acid. Hate flavored or sugared coffee. But it does not affect me at all with the speediness other mention. I can drink 2-3 cups of strong brew at night just before going to bed (while reading usually) and then go right to sleep with ease. Never has bothered me in almost 50 years of drinking it. Coffee is my friend. I like it more than I like our dog.

What do you roast in? I've been using a modified air popcorn popper, but just bought a gas roaster (Huky) yesterday.

-Mike

I'm old school. Aluminum pie pans. Punch about 15 small holes in the center of the one that goes on top, only do enough beans to cover the bottom pan. My oven roast them evenly for 35 minutes at 450 degrees. The guy at the place where I buy my green beans suggested a Nesco roaster, which is what they use for sample roasting. They are available at various price ranges. I'm considering trying one, but I really get a kick out of the old school method...
