US: West Colorado Club

Yep. I'm an ex Angeleno too. Been here since 2005 and I love it. So here's a little shameless self promotion for our upcoming gig on Saturday. Come one, come all :)

Anyone here from the Craig area? I have a possible job opportunity, and I’ve been ther before, but I wanted to get more feedback.
Thanks

I've been there, but it's not exactly a teeming metropolis. I would think jamming and gig opportunities are pretty scarce.

It is near some very beautiful places, though.

Hm, can't help you much with those things. If it matters to you, it seems to be a pretty conservative place. Hunting, ranching, and oil and gas are probably the biggest employers. I have no idea what the schools are like, but probably typical of rural Western America.

I’m more concerned about raising a family there.
Schools, jobs, etc.
Why is it colder there than Steamboat
I think its elevation is lower than the surrounding. We all know where heat goes and where cold goes, so the mountain valleys can be brutal. Fraser, Alamosa, Gunnison are all like that too.

I'd be skeptical about the jobs outlook in Craig other than professional services that you find everywhere. As I understand it, Craig was an energy and mining economy and there there are no significant employers there. Downstream of that issue would be a challenge finding good teachers within the labor pool.

I assume you want to avoid the front range. In the mountains I think you would fare better in Grand Junction or Montrose, frankly.

After a week’s worth of research, I’m getting the vibe that this isn’t a great part of CO. The job is for accountant at their hospital.

I will see what happens, but really appreciate all input

What's "great" would be completely relative to what you feel meets your needs or what's important to you. I'm sure that there are people who love Craig and forsake other options. It's a small town in a mostly rural part of the state. I don't think that type of setting would work for my family and I at this time. You might feel differently....

I’m looking for something quasi suburb, with lower COL than Denver and my current locale. Good schools, tight knit community feel, neighbors know each other, use please and thank you, etc

Something like Souix Falls

Craig will probably have a lower COL with a tight knit community feel. It's such a small place that I'm sure that people will know each other. Quasi suburbs, good schools and Sioux Falls? I don't think that's really Craig. Moffat County High School seems to be under performing.....
