US: West Colorado Club

Hey all,
We sold our house and found one down in Westminster. I went there for three days last week and looked at a bunch. One that I put an offer on accepted. Though I don't think we're getting the best deal on the house, it's in a nice area next to Standley Lake. The houses are going so quick down there that we didn't really have many options. So, we ended up paying 285K and it needs work. The owners of the nicer ones we looked at in that price range did not accept our offer, because of a bidding war I suspect, or just a better offer.

Is anyone familiar with that area? From all of the places I saw around the Denver metro area, that was one of the nicest.

Hey @Knavery, you're gonna love it here! I'm actually a Realtor and live in Broomfield, about 5-10 minutes from Standley Lake. Sounds like you experienced a pretty typical buying experience right now out here, the market surrounding Denver has been nuts for a good couple of years now.

Anyway, congrats on the purchase and shoot me a message when you get to town, it'd be great to meet you and welcome you to the Rockies! (Not in a 420 way... just to be clear)

It's a great area... I currently live at the other end of 104th, but the fiancée and I are looking to buy in that area... Maybe... Really after living in Dallas and (eek) Memphis, there aren't that many areas of the Front Range that I wouldn't call home! Hit me up and I'll be glad to welcome you to town with a beverage!

Hey guys. We closed on our Minnesota home as well as the Colorado home and officially live in Westminster. We still have half a truck to unpack before bringing it back Wednesday, but I gotta say I'm more excited than I have been in years. The one thing I've noticed out here is that people are much friendlier. I thought it was just a coincidence at first, but after moving into our new house, I realized it wasn't. It's easier to talk to your neighbors and befriend people. In Minnesota, people keep more to themselves and try to avoid others.

At any rate, I'll PM those that want to hang out and have a beer sometime.

I'm from New Jersey and the Denver friendly factor definitely caught me by surprise. No complaints, though! :)

Denver: Lots of ppl moving here, and the transportation situation is getting worse due to all the cars. So if you're a 30 min commute without traffic, plan for an hour+ during rush hours. Thats the bad. The good is that its beautiful out here and the people are cool. Mountains, rivers, lots of exploring and outdoor adventures to be had. I almost hit a deer the other day, reeeeeallly close... The music scene is good. A strong semi-underground punk scene. Electronic music is probably most popular but you can find all kinds of music out here.

I was considering CO, but I hear a lot of folks from NY, FL, and CA are moving there. Is it turning into that??

The music scene is great! You can find live music every night. If you have a decent group, you shouldn't have any trouble getting gigs. Weekday commuter and weekend mountain traffic does suck, though.

Yeah commuting sucks pretty bad in any decent sized city. Denver is not at all exempt from that. Consider your job location when hunting for a rental house or apartment when you first move. You can branch out from there once you've got a feel for it. For what it's worth, I live in Aurora and work on base. My commute is 15 min because I don't have far to go and avoid almost all major traffic routes.

There are lots of music venues. The weather is great. Scenery is beautiful in the area.

Im from cali, so I'm one of those ppl. I'd say that ppl from all over the U.S. are moving here. In a few more years more states will be legalizing herb and things will die down out here. As for myself, I'll prob be headed back to cali at some point. I like it here but I have move family out there and I miss the beach.
