Combo Amp Question...

Hey TB! I have a question, and the old Search Function is coming up short b/c I am fairly certain I'm looking for info that's hard to obtain with a search.

I am looking for a combo amp to use as a practice amp. I live on the second floor, so I'm not game on dragging my gig rig up the stairs if I don't have to, but I would like to practice and work out effects settings/levels, etc in comfort, not in the vestibule downstairs by the front door.

I need something that can handle the low B, distortion/OD tones, octave down tones - without distorting, farting out... I figure I need something pushing 75 watts minimum and a 10" speaker at the least.

Had a GK Backline 110 (70W and a 10" speaker) - didn't cut it.
Currently have a Hartke B600 (60W 12" speaker) - also not making the grade.

Obviously I don't want to blow the bank for a practice amp, but I also know at this point that to do what I want, I need either a 12", 15" or 2x10" that pushes 100W - anybody have any suggestions that are less than say $350 new or used? I'd really like to keep it under $250 or $300 and I know the used market yields a lot of nice deals if you are patient and know how to look - my problem is that at this point I don't know what I'm looking for.

I own a Line 6 LD150, and love it. My GC had one the other day - new - for <$280 price drop, although GC website doesn`t price it this yet.

Hmm. I always have been interested in checking out those Acoustics - have heard a lot of good about them.
I've sworn off the LD series - 3 of those 150's and they all crapped out before the 30 days at GC ran out. Such a shame too, being that I swear by their effects.

But to ans the original question you may want to try on of the new GK amps. They are around 400.00 for the single 15 200 watt combo, but they weight 33 pounds, and you can use them for home practice and small to medium size gigs.

I love GK - my main rig's head is GK! I am considering a used Nemesis N28S here in the classifieds. They are great amps and used can fit my budget, I might just swing in that direction.

I have the MB115 and it kicks A**! I paid 375.00 out (L.A. sales tax is 9.75% ) the door at GC so you can get a good price on it new I'm sure
I have used it for gigs in rooms that are 200-300 people capacity with no problem, and I use it everyday at home to practice at low levels too. Its so light that when I first got it i would pick it up every time I walked by it..lol

Cool. I.am fairly certain that that GK would fill my needs, but it may be to much cash and more than I need in a practice amp.100-120 watts is plenty and if I.can score a Nemesis for 2 bills it may be exactly what I need. But now I.am gonna have to look at that GK - of course!

I have a Peavey Basic 50 (50 loud watts and a 12") that's loud and solid. If you want it you can come get it for $75. I just got it back from a friend I lent it to many years ago, and I have no use for it.

Huge. Just to re-literate, I am not planning on gigging w/it, just practice at home. Reason I need 100 watts is b/c I need it to handle distorted effects/powerful signal.

MB115 fed too much money,and power - now the MB112 - possibly! Time to sleep on it!

I got that amp and its really, an awesome little unit! Thick and punchy. It also has a lot of volume for a 100 watts. I push overdrive with it and it does fine.

Yeah - I saw a guy buy a few of them at GC the last time I was there picking up my MV Jazz. He used his in a three piece jazz combo and also at home for exactly the same reason.

I was born in 59. What years are you referring to?

Not sure - it was on a photo-drama area in the lobby for a while. I was there in 1959-1962, and had been there for a short time in 1955 or so. I graduated from PV and went right to PTHS.

We lived on Village Road, right behind Chilton and we also lived in Butler, Smoke Rise, Fairlawn and Wanaque.
