The prejudice is that despite their common appearance, the various nations of the "orient" are indeed different cultures and the term "Oriental" lumps them all into the same bucket. This does not give each nation the respect it deserves for what makes each of them unique.

Another word said incorrectly frequently is veteran. It is not vetran or vet-run

It isn't wrong to pronounce veteran in the ways you've described. In Britain and many other English-speaking countries I'm betting the pronunciation will be "vetran".

This is one of my faves (un-faves?) and I have a habit of emphasizing how to say it correctly: "I couldn't care less, because I care zero, and negative caring makes no sense."

The first form sounds like a threat: "I could care less." "Oh yeah? As if I care whether you care less. Go ahead: care less. See if I care."

Ok though I'll play. Rope is part of my daily life and there are a few guys I work with who say "taunt" when they mean "taut". As in "make sure that rope is taunt".
