I really like the sound of the (P/J) pickup setup in the short scale Ibanez TMB 30. Does anyone know if those pickups can be fitted to a Fender Mustang, or even a regular Fender P/J model?

Compatible pickups - Ibanez Talman vs Fender P/J or Mustang?

I own both basses, and unless you've used the Ibanez in a few live situations I'd hold off on doing that. IME the Fender pickups are much thicker, as well as much more musical sounding than the TMB. TMB might sound great in the house, but the pickups are very thin sounding when brought into a band mix. I replaced them immediately with Geezers, and it still doesn't hold up to P/J. That being said, if ya really wanted to do it, I think they'd swap out just fine (though there might be a little space in the P/J). The TMB jazz pickup is just a tiny bit more narrow than the Fender. Pretty sure the P is identical.
EDIT: I'll add that if you want the best of both worlds, I promise the new MIA Mustang won't disappoint. It has the 2 volumes and a tone control, plus the pickups are a little more subdued. They have a lot more oomph still than the Talman, but the P is a lot more tamed. Both pickups sound awesome soloed, too. I just got it a few weeks ago, and it shot right up to the top of my bass heap.
