Compression pedal question..

The sound guy at a gig last night told me should get a compression pedal...

I use a GK mb500 and used to have an ashdown abm evo III with the built in compression....

In terms of a compressed sound i currently have a Barefaced cab on the way to pair with my mb500....

Id assume cabs would also compress the sound...?

Or am i being stupid and should just get a compression pedal??

If so any recommendations??

While speakers can compress the signal, it depends on the mechanical characteristics of the specific speaker cones, and how hard they are driven. Generally speaking, that type of compression is more of a technical side effect that occasionally can be heard, as opposed to a feature you can rely on.
