I tried our guitarist's once or twice.. it's a nice pedal (though not as transperent) and if it is really that ridiculously cheap, I'd say it's a good direction.

i gotta throw in my vote for the bbe opto-stomp. they get the vote from bongomania for the best compressor in its price range, and i'll have to agree. i even sold mine at one point to try other pedals, but then i ended up buying another one and it's here to say.

transparent and subtle enough to subdue volume spikes and uneven attack. it does it very well!

Ok, I found an mxr dyna comp at the local music shop. I'm gonna try it out this weekend at band practice. Most of the other stuff reccommended looks like its great gear, but its out of my price range, which is down to $100 or less. If I could find a BBE to try, Ill give it a whirl. And I can't find much on that DOD pedal either. I'll let you know how it goes. Keep the suggestion coming.

Ok, since last week I tried out TONS of compressors. First off, the DIs were really very cool. but not what I was looking for. I tried out BBE, Aphex, MXR, Maxon all three Big Muffs, and even a cheap Ibanez for the heck of it.

I bought the MXR Super Comp. Some of the others sounded somewhat better 9notably the Maxon), but not better enough for the price. I picked up a new Super Comp for 60 bucks. It does color my tone when its on, but I like the color. It looks cool, and I'm pretty sure I could run it over with a Tiger tank without damaging it. Being able to adjust the attack is great, cuz it left all the growl in place, but made striking chords sound AMAZING. no muddy sounds at all, just a deep and clear voicing. I'm very happy!
