Compressor use in a heavy rock band

Be patient, they do hit the classifieds, but you have to be ready to pounce fast. :)

Having to try and hunt one down is a pain, not sure FEA pedals will be the best option. Plus at the end of the day I am still new to compression and the number of knobs on the DE-CL is a bit scary haha.

Is there anything like the DE-CL out there that has limiting capabilities but also has that warm sound/warmth function?

I'll keep an eye out for a DE-CL in the classifieds, but I'm still looking for a compressor.

I'm looking for a compressor for functionality and a fat/magical tone. Done A LOT of reading on ovnilab, and the more think about it I think I want an optical compressor. I like the sound of the Effectrode PC-2A but I want something that will run on 9v.

The Daring Audio Phat Beam sounds pretty cool, though it doesn't seem many people on TB have used them. The Darkglass SS is meant to sound good, but I've heard it's actual compression effect is subtle which I'm not sure I like. The ovnifx smoothie also seems interesting - is it transparent sounding until you play with the tone?
