In that case, almost everybody will recommend the MXR Bass Compressor and they are quite right, if you're looking for something rather transparent. I tried one and it's pretty nice, yet on the pricey side (but most quality compressor pedals for bass are...).

For my part, I don't use a pedal, so I can't really help you more then that.

I love the Empress compressor but I have the FEA labs DE-CL and it is incredible

I obsessed over my choice, read ovnilab.com, participated in endless discussions here about it...and finally chose the MXR. YMMV, but I still love it and have no regrets whatsoever.
