Compressors and static :/

Morning folks,

After learning this past week about compressors I realized I may need one for my tone, rocking out with the TAFM I notice there's a crackle and static cacophony between my notes and while yes it is the fuzz I'm talking about the string noise that occurs when you run a finger across one or between the notes.

I can only imagine a compressor can help clean the unwanted string noise? I love having a clean sound so I have thought of perhaps getting a Demeter Comp-1. What you guys think?

Thanks

Noise gates don't add up, so it'll be as if you only had the most radical one activated. Basically, a noise gate doesn't do anything to a signal that's louder than the threshold you set, and makes anything below it even quieter. Just to be clear, if you scrape a string while playing a note it will leave everything alone, it's the space between notes that it'll mute.
By the sounds of it, the gate on the TAFM doesn't have a high enough threshold to block out the string noise. If you got the Boss one, for example (link below), you set it to mute and adjust the threshold so it mutes the scraping but lets notes through when you play them normally. You won't need to play louder, but if you accidentally play a note softer than the threshold it will be muted.

Yeah I had been looking at different compressors and noticed the NS-2, along with the Mr. Squishy and the MDX-1600..but the 1600 looks like it's too much to work with. Is the Mr. Squishy good? Ebay has them at good prices...

My bad, I thought the MDX had multiple functions and I read the Mr. Squishy wrong.... NS-2 it is lol. As for the strings comment I've been thinking of getting halfrounds from d'darrio soon so that'll be interesting.

Thanks for the input guys :)

Oops, time to backpedal frantically! Turns out the MDX does have a supressor after all, sorry. :crying:
Obviously it's not for me to decide, but if it was me I'd get the Boss. It does allow you to control it more precisely, and you can just switch it off when you're done with the TAFM so you don't have to worry about it eating up your quieter notes. On the other hand, if you want to keep things in a rack or want the other features on the MDX, it is the better choice.
I think I'll back out of here before I make someone buy the wrong thing.

Don't sweat it I was liking the boss NS-2 more anyways, I looked at all the features the MDX has and was overwhelmed lol I mostly play at home for myself and family and my guitar buddy isnt always here so getting a large rig or setup isnt top priority.

I'm just hoping I get the tone im looking for at the end of all this, or my guitarist is going to have hand me downs rofl
