Any comments, predictions, etc., about the Gold Cup?

Landon Donovan's direct kick that gave the US a 2-1 lead over Cuba last week gave me goosebumps. That was beautiful. I was watching it on the local Univision (Spanish-language) station, and I could only catch a word or two now and then.

Yeah, those hydroplanes are really fast, and it's cool to see piston engines making a comeback. :bag:

Looks like the US team tied Costa Rica 0-0. They've looked pretty danged good in the WC qualifiers I've seen.

Gold Cup is a pretty useless event, but I've been so starved for good soccer/football action it'll definitely suffice.

Too bad only the spanish cable stations are even airing the games...I don't get the Fox Sports Soccer channel.

Can't wait til the World Cup qualifiers come back.

w00t just found this thread. Now I can avoid Big Soccer....

US squad is continuing to struggle to score. That always hurts when you get to the knock out round.

Bright side is that we are truly figuring out which marginal players may or may not help in the actual run up to Germany. So far, Dempsey has shown an ability to get involved, but not always advance the cause. He's in the middle of a lot of plays, but needs to make things happen, particularly if he's a striker.

I was disappointed in Noonan. I had higher hopes for him.

Our effective offensive weapons in this tournament (Beaseley and Donovan), are quite small and can be marked out of big games unless there's another physical presence in the middle.

I thought most of our offense against Costa Rico came from attacking backs. Cherundolo is the American Gary Neville.
