Concert shell setup

We're playing a concert in the park in a "concert shell" thingy. It's approx 30' tall by 50' wide by maybe 25' deep. It's not a huge event, just a local neighborhood park so we're just using what we use in the bars... 2 single 15's w/ horn fronts for vox, keys, percussion, and maybe kick. The rest straight from the amps.
We don't want to be too loud (you know...older folks and all) so we're not dragging out the pair of dual 15's w/horns we have. (the bottom 15 on these is a quasi sub taking 300Hz and below only). I'm concerned about the bass. I use a AccuGroove ElWhappo with a Thunderfunk 550 and that will be all for the bass. Should I set this up as close the back of the shell to throw the bass more (it'd be ~15' behind where all of us will be standing) or keep it up with the rest of the band? I don't want it to sound too thin when you get past 20 feet past the front of the shell. Thoughts?

My thoughts are keep it up with you. What little you gain, if any, from being in the back of the bandshell will be mitigated by how far back it will be, and you'll have to turn up inordinately loud to hear it.

Thanks Jimmy, that's most likely what I was going to do. Just wondering if different placement would have any benefits.

I also was thinking of bringing maybe one of those 2-15 w/ horns, laying it on the floor on its side (it's trapezoidal) way behind the band so that it would pointing upward over our heads and kinda following the roof to project out. I'd only put the bass and kick through it (bass from my line out, of course).

The back of it doesn't extend all the way to the ground, it ends ~4' from the ground.


All my overthinking of this may be for nothing anyways... as of now it's looking like rain all week again. This is always a fun gig because we all have little kids and this is the one gig we do they can come to.

Ya, the rain has been positively brutal in June. But it beats a drought, I guess. I don't know...if you do play the gig, I probably wouldn't do much out of the ordinary. And having a lows cab behind you as well as your regular cab up with you can create delay smears, so if you add it, I'd keep it up with you, too.

+1 to delay smears,,, don't do it.
