Cone surface area

I am getting ready to replace the speaker in my 1x15 cab. and I have it narrowed down to two speakers. They both have pretty much the same frequency range and Xmas ratings, but where they differ the most is in the cone surface area. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the cone surface area relates to the amount of air a spekaer can move. Is this correct and would that make it the better one to go with in this case. Also they have the same wattage rating. Thanks for everybody's help in advance.

Only indirectly. The spec that does measure this is Vd, volume displacement, which is the product of Sd x Xmax.

In other words what matters is the amount of cone area plus how far it can move in and out, all thing being equal a bigger cone will move more air. The efficiency of the speaker also matters.

Have you modeled both in the cabinet that you intend to use them in for maximum SPL and LF extension and compared their SPL charts to see how they work in the midrange up to your intended crossover?

Man, buying replacement speakers has gotten really hard! It's almost not worth it to even bother, and if you blow one and you need one in a hurry, it looks like you're pretty well screwed.

Myself and the dealer I intend to purchase from have looked at the info from Eminence and it looks like either will work based on the recommended enclosure info from Eminence. I wish my knowledge and understanding of speakers was better, but at this point I have to rely on my ear and advice from others that do know. I have a 800 watt bass head, and a Eden 4x10xlt. I am looking to have a single 15 cab help with the bottom end from my 5 string. I play in a metal band and we play loud. My current speaker in the single 15 cab doesn't have a high enough wattage rating to handle the situation. I was looking at either of these two speakers because it seems like they could and are something I can afford. You tell me Bill.
