Confused by tech talk -please clarify?

Hello all, I'm an idiot. I come here to learn. Please be kind ;)

I need to replace speakers in a stereo practice amp, and the manual states "10 watts RMS into 8 Ohms". On the amp, it says "10 watts 9V RMS 8 Ohm min. load each channel".

Do I buy 2 8 Ohm speakers, or 2 16 Ohm, or... ?

Is this a legit bass amp or something you’re just using with your bass?
Why do you think you need to replace the speakers? Blown? If so you might just blow them again unless you put in speakers designed for bass guitar, not bass hi-fi.

If you replace with hi-fi bass speakers, they won’t work very well with bass guitar.
To replace them with proper bass guitar speakers would cost a lot more than buying a proper bass practice amp.

The 9V part shouldn’t matter for speaker replacement. That sounds more like a power supply spec.
Does this amp run off of an external power supply that plugs into the amp.

Please post a make and model number and pics, if possible.

Thanks for the replies.
This is a piccolo bass amp :) , a Peavey Audition Chorus.
It will be used for guitar, but may see a bass signal now and then (don't worry, I have a nice, loud bass amp ;) ).
The speakers are definitely shot, which is how I got it for free.

It powers up, and sounds good on low volume, but does need new speakers.

I did a quick Google search, and came up with a manual that showed a wiring diagram. Apparently, it has a little 10-watt RMS amp for each woofer. Therefore, you can get two 8-ohm woofers. I doubt you’ll find anything with that low wattage these days, but I do recommend getting an “instrument” or “pro” line woofer. Don’t get a home or car woofer. Better yet, just plug in headphones since it’s for practice because that’ll sound MUCH better than those two replacement drivers will anyway (unless you spend way more than that practice amp is worth).

I agree with checking Parts Express, I use a couple of their pa/bass speakers in small combo (guitar and bass) amps and a tiny Randall cab and find they work decently for me at home for practice.

Here's how the 9V relates.

Note the Power (P) formula for voltage (V) and resistance (R)...in this case impedance which is "reactive resistance."
9V^2=81/8ohms=10.125W.

so basically 9V RMS is ~10W at 8 ohms.

I would check to see if the spiders on the back of the speakers came unglued. If that is the problem, maybe reglueing the spiders will help. Unfortunately, photos show the amp is open back, so over excursion with bass is likely to occur at low volume.

Thanks for posting the additional info.
From what I see, this is a guitar amp.
Using a Piccolo bass with it would be like using a guitar in that you don't need to be concerned with stressing the speakers.

never heard of any kind of speaker repair besides "reconing", where all the paper gets ripped out and installed from scratch as if it were a new speaker basket.

also never heard of this ever being feasible on speakers that were worth less than like $150 each, and never on little mini-speakers in any case.

I’d probably get a pair of these for $16/ea:
"GRS 10PR-8 10" Poly Cone Rubber Surround Woofer" from www.parts-express.com!

EDIT - these are woofers! You might want full range speakers instead!!

I’d also be looking at closing the back of the cab and adding a vent. There are programs to determine what you need specifically to tune the cabinet, but you can probably wing it and do better than the open back design. Or just keep the open back and see how it does, since its piccolo bass and guitar.

Ps - PartsExpress can get very expensive! Oh, they sell both cheap and high end stuff, but the costs add up when you start briwsing and adding small tube amps and whatnot to your cart!
