I was recently comparing two different sets of Fender Js and Ps in the store, looking at the new Standard vs. the Player II. I interestingly thought the Standards actually felt a little easier to play just because the back of the neck was smoother while the Player II felt kind of sticky by comparison.
When I looked up the neck specs they both listed satin urethane, but specifically the Standard says “Satin Urethane with Gloss Urethane Headstock Face,” and the Player II says “Satin Urethane Finish on Back of Neck with Gloss Urethane Headstock Face.”
Is the “back of the neck” the key difference here? If so I’m confused because where is the satin urethane on the standard neck if not the back of it? Or does it just have a much lighter coat?
