connecting my pedalboard to my interface?

Hi everyone!

Noob question ahead.

I have a focusrite scarlett 2i2 AI that I got for for my birthday. I play with my bass directly into the interface (instrument level) using regular 1/4" instrument cable, but now I would like to have my pedalboard connected to it. My pedalboard consists of:
TC Electronic Polytune 2
Boss OD-3
MXR Carbon Copy
MXR bass d.i.+

The bass d.i. is only used as a preamp and distortion, and not as a di for now.

Can I connect the pedalboard to the interfaces instrument level by using a 1/4", or should I get an XLR cable and use the DI as a DI, and go line level?

The biggest reason I'm asking, is because of the DI/preamp. Am afraid I'll fry something caused by the output of it.

Thank you for the answer.:) Should I connect the regular output of the preamp (the one that usually go in an amplifier) to the input of the interface and switch to line level on the input?
God! I know to little about impedance in signals to own an interface:p. Is line level kind of a safe zone? I mean, would feeding line level signal into the input when the input is set to instrument cause damage or be bad?
I don't have mic level on my interface, only line and instrument.

I have the manual (paper version) in front of me (more of a starters guide). It does not say anything about it. I just searched it up online after reading what you wrote, and you're right. Huh... Learned something new:).
Btw. I tried connecting my pedal board. it worked fine. Was a little to low volume on the line level almost didn't recognise the bass. changed to instrument, and it worked fine. I've read many places that these interfaces start to clip on instruments even at low levels, but i have my input at about 10-11 o clock with no clipping. Tried with two basses.:hyper:
