hi david!
chris tomlin i met when his band was opening for steven curtis chapman on a couple of the tours that i did with steven. victor wooten i met as a result of sending a demo tape of my playing to another bass player named roy vogt, who later told victor about me. i got to meet vic in person afterwards at a flecktones show. dave weckl i met when my band opened up for the mike stern trio in atlanta. dave was playing with mike at the time. most every relationship i have cultivated over the years has resulted from networking or being in different working situations that allowed me to cross paths with different players. the more players and scenarios you work with, the more that you are exposed to new people. it's also worth mentioning that if you give a good impression at the gigs and sessions you work on, other players will often times be willing to refer you for other gigs or sessions, and the process keeps building over time. as for school, i first attended an older version of the atlanta institute of music when it was still affiliated with m.i. in hollywood. after that, i attended the university of georgia for a few years before transferring to georgia state as a jazz performance major. i left school before graduating in an effort to try and jump-start my career.
