Considering a Warwick Corvette std

My local store (in Canada) has one, brand new, for just under 900.00$. I played it, and I really like the feel. The tone was also good, but just a little dark. Wondering what others have in opinions, or experiences with this particular passive bass.

He is also giving me very good exchange money for one of the basses I have at home, and I'm not using as much.

They are really nice, and a dark woody tone is sort of the Warwick Standard tone, is it the ash one or bubinga?

I assumed it was bubinga, as I thought it was the wood Warwick commonly used, but I certainly am not sure. It does have a darker stain on it than the common Warwick corvette color.

Was it like a cream colour or a reddish colour?

I think these basses sound great on their own, but when I had one, I didn't get a sound that would "cut through" especially well with my cover band. I had nice Bartolini p/u's and a preamp handy that I dropped in there, too, but despite that smooth, groovy tone, it just didn't occupy the space in our sound that I wanted. I actually use a passive Warmoth J-bass loaded with DiMarzio Ultra-Jazz p/u's and this delivers just what I need for overall sound.

One other caution with the Corvette. Get another test drive with it, but play it on a strap for more than just a couple of minutes. For some players, they're okay, but I couldn't play mine for long without getting a lot of fatigue in my left (fretting) hand. The layout of that bass looks neat and it sits on a knee just fine, but it's neck-heavy on a strap and I didn't recognize the shortcomings with mine until after I owned it for a while.
