Considering Stringjoy

Stringjoy bass strings! I’ve had a couple sets, 40-100 and 40-120. I find them not stiff, they play effortlessly to me, and sound great on my passive Fender J and P basses.

Currently they only have bass strings in gauges ending on 5 or 0, but if you want to try in between gauges on your top strings, the windings on their guitar strings (at least in the bass guitar G and D string range) will reach past the nut on a standard 34” scale Fender bass. I don’t know if the cores are any different in a guitar string .040” vs a bass guitar string .040”, but I currently have their guitar .040, and .060, with their bass string .080, .100, and .120 on a Fender style Jazz V and they make for a great set. I tried a guitar .080 string but its full outer windings ended before the nut on my bass, fwiw.

I obsessively measure all my strings with calipers and I can say these Stringjoy strings have all been dead-on the diameters they’re supposed to be. Several other major brands are not that consistent, or are as a rule consistently smaller than advertised (DR). So, for that alone (getting exactly what I am counting on) and for their effortless playing feel and great, even sound, and bc they’re in my home state, I think I am sticking with them!

At this point I think I really like what I hear - let me summarize since I am a weird list guy:

Did I miss anything? I think the only really trepidation I have at this point is I think I need maybe a brighter string than these may offer? I know, a personal problem…

They don’t have those ridiculous colored ball-ends either.

I've been using a set for a few weeks now. I haven't played them out, just at home. However, I'm still really impressed, they feel good under the fingers, they stay in tune (the starting point for good strings), they bend well, and they have good snap and growl. I would probably place them middle of the road as far as brightness or darkness is concerned (some people would call that "balanced"). Overall, I would rate them as a good consistent sounding, dependable string. The extra cost is worth it in my opinion because I like supporting small businesses.
