Conspiracy to Commit Electronics Megathread

The Steddi Go circuit is near-identical to the Ampeg SVTDI and likely also Khan VTDI; both of which use a 12AU7 tube. Maybe that's the preferred tube in this application. I imagine that a AX7 is a bit too gainy.
I'm waiting for Musikding to provide a complete Steddi Go kit, so I can build one for a bandmate as he wants a tube DI for acoustic guitar.
I just A/B/C 'd the three I built.

Unagi/Tung Sol ax
Unagi/TAD au
LBA/Tung Sol ax

The au definitely has less volume but I liked the tone better. The LBA transformer seemed nicer to my ears but it's really subjective and only minor differences.

The two ax will get a little grit at the top of the volume range while the au is always clean.

This was all through the wet 1/4" into a power amp then a diy sealed 2x12.

Really a nice sounding circuit.

I've got them all for sale but maybe I'll end up keeping one, lol.

I completely missed that the SVTDI uses a 12AU7 tube, now I have to try it.

There is a sort of similar layout in the feedback circuit in the LA-2A but it is not the same as far as I am concerned.
I think the same topology can be found in most tube amps, its that common. There are closer examples in a lot of the C2CE pedals.
If you compare the Steddi Go circuit to the SVTDI you will find them fairly close but the Steddi Go is more stripped down to make it as minimal as practical.

Whoa, really? I was not aware of that, or I may have come up with a different name.

I haven't seen an SVTDI or SVTMP in person so I can't speak to the details, but the LA-2A gainstage is a pretty generic gainstage.

On a somewhat related note, I still don't seem to be getting notifications from this thread unless I get tagged or quoted. Not sure what's going on there.

Wasn't there a Sushi Box pedal that was just the gain section of the Effectrode La-2-a?

Yes and no. A million years ago I did Deep Dish, which was based on the Effectrode LA-1A, and my current pedal More is the basically the same circuit with the compressor section removed.

That being said Effectrode's LA-1A has very little in common at a circuit level with the Teletronix LA-2A.
 
It looks like the C2CE shop is getting a new section called Pedal Shop, so far there is a Nobelium fully built displayed but it is out of stock at the moment.
I sure hope we can also buy the power supply by itself in there as I tend to lend pedals to friends and they hardly ever have a good power supply they can use.
I wonder what other pedals might pop up there in the future.
 
I know it is not a Neptunium that is the next PCB to come to the shop but it will be very nice and it will have an XLR as well.
The Neptunium is too big to fit in a 125B with TH components and it defeats the purpose to build it in a bigger box when you could build a Nobelium instead.
I am not going to spoil it any more then that for Nathan but I can't wait to build some.

The fact that Neptunium does not fit in a 125B using through-hole components makes sense after the fact but is no less frustrating to hear.

This news arrives just as my original Nobelium has soiled our nice linens. At first the signal to noise ratio became much lower and now the gain has faded as well. Same thing happened to my cat a week ago but I blame entropy and cancer in those instances.

My original core board was built around the Nobelium. I built a new smaller core board around a Neptunium. I have fallen in love with the Neptunium's familiar sound in a smaller form factor. I get the toan I want on a basic board and it (and the entire board) is dead silent.

I've ordered new JJ tubes for my Nobelium but will have to wait to see in my $50 fix really does clean those sheets.

The new PCB coming out could be just as good as the Nobelium in my humble opinion, well , maybe not humble, more like uneducated opinion but I have read some great reviews on what the latest PCB is based on.
I don't think Nathan should tell me these secrets any more, I feel like a little kid trying to keep a secret and I'm ready to burst.
