Controversial Opinion: Gibson Basses Questionable Design Choices

Hmmm...I’d love to play a Grabber. Every instrument I own needs tweaking, maybe the Grabber just needed a little work.

I think the reality is, I want a symmetrical, bound, gloss Gibson that’s pretty much a bass version of a Les Paul double cut that doesn’t cost $4,000.00 or more. That doesn’t currently exist. The closest I’ve found is this (No Gene hate, please):

Casady played a modded Guild Starfire and then later on - in the '70s - switched to Les Paul Signature Bass which became a base for his signature Epiphone model. The second picture is from a Reverb listing and not the actual LP Bass that he played

You have the body wood? So you're going to cut the body yourself. You know you only get one shot at that. Plus you have to route the body for the neck and pickups, and drill the body for the wiring, buy the neck all the electronics, and assorted parts. If you've got the skills and the tools, right on but in the long run it might be better to buy A Jack Casady Epiphone as JPDsma reminded me, unless you just really want to build your own guitar, and there is nothing wrong with that. And you still need a case. If you want to do that get a 335 body that's already cut and routed and get a neck. Then you can get the pickups, bridge, tail piece you like and it will all be custom. You can do gold or black hardware if you don't like chrome but it will be a lot of hours to get it right. I'm sure you know that.

It's not quite that simple. If you buy a 335 style body, chances are it will be drilled for tunamatic and stop tail piece. Will these holes be in the optimum beplace for a bass bridge/ tail? No.

That's no Gibson. Doesn't have the Gibson logo or diamonds on the head stock and it can never be a true Gibson without those.

Lol!! It took me a while. Yes sir, by my own definition it has to have that logo, diamond or pineapple thing, binding, gloss finish,nor it’s not a true Gibson!!

That's because they got bought by a company that doesn't give a poopie about Gibson's history. I don't know if anybody has heard but the new company that bought Gibson is suing every other guitar company for copyright infringement for making guitars that are styled after Gibson bodies. Can you believe that?

Ricks are great basses but they are very pricey was my point.

Oh, got it. To me, and most, they are priced similar to most MIA basses from the major manufacturers, such as Fender, G&L, and EBMM, for a few examples. Nothing extravegant, really. Of course, it depends on where you live (not, the US?)
