In my experience if you look on Amazon or Ebay Ricks are generally the most expensive basses out there. Even sometimes more pricey than a vintage American made P bass for example depending on the age.

Controversial Opinion: Gibson Basses Questionable Design Choices

My guess is that it is gouging by the sellers in whatever country you live in. In the US they are not the highest priced, generally (for standard production instruments).
I'm in the U.S which is why I made the comment. You must be finding better deals than I am my brother.
Any company, regardless of who owns them, can make a turnaround if they really want to. The important word here is “If”. A long great history for someone to draw on for sure. From LP’s, SG’s, Mandolins, Banjo’s, etc. Will take someone at the “helm” who understands that tradition, and wants to move things forward. Absolutely love all of my Gibson stuff, and would not sell them for the world, but until something dramatic changes, I’ll stand by my earlier responses, as in they are a Guitar company that makes other things. Hoping at some point they prove me wrong.
Love my gibby eb-11, and yes it does have gibson on headstock. I've actually owned 4 of these over the last 3 or 4 years. I'm down to one right now, can't even describe how beautiful it looks, and is crazy fun to play

I don;t know about Gibson. They have been bought and sold so many times over the years unless they are bought by some group that knows how musicians feel about Gibson or were musicians themselves i don't see much hope for Gibson.

In the spirit of this is “controversial” thread, ha ha.....Just because of Gene Simmons, I always wanted a Gibson-type bass. He modded the heck out of an EB-0 - look at that photo and tell me that doesn’t look awesome!!
I’ll be honest, I pretty much despise what Gibson is today. That “play authentic” video pissed me off. However, I love what the company was when it started. All my guitar heroes as a kid played Gibson guitars.
I either want to modify a Les Paul Jr. guitar kit and make it into a bass, or re-work one of the new LP DC Tribute basses and make it pretty close to what Gene did to his back into the ‘70s.

Here are the questionable Gibson design choices I own. The biggest question I have to face is which one to play. They all sound great. Yes, I have a couple of Fender Jazz basses as well - fretted and fretless. And the obligatory Ric. Rounding out the collection are a Guild hollow body, a Gretsch long scale hollow body, an Ibenez Portamento and Talman.

Okay you seem perfect to answer this question since you have so many different brands of basses. I know it's all about opinion but which bass brand do you prefer? Most players aren't lucky enough to own a Ric but what do you think? I've had several P basses, a Gibson Grabber, an early Vox, a Kramer w/koa wood body and aluminum neck(my back hurts already), and I traded that and recently got an Ibanez Road Series 1900. The best bass I've ever played.
My SG and me are interested in each other and we're working hard to get along. She seems to understand that the stock 3 point bridge is a non-starter, so the Hipshot bridge is the concession. Learning to tame her body tilt and neck dive, and with tight string spacing our communication can be challenging. She has her charms and for now she's a keeper. Yeah, she's 100 percent chocolate brown and her mahogany neck is amazing.

Except it's not...unlike the viola and cello, it's from the viol family. Where the violin family is tuned in fifths, the double bass is tuned in fourths like viols were, although there are modern players who tune in fifths to be able to play precisely an octave below the cello...CGDA instead of EADG...without using fingerboard extensions.
There have been a few proportional bass violins built, but they are super rare and very difficult to play because they are huge.
