Converting tapewounds to roundwounds?

OP is moving towards the Darkside, possibly having read too many other string-related posts by another dear friend of ours on TB.
Maybe the mods can start a dedicated forum ("Overthinking strings" or some such) to deal with all this distraction.
It's still mind-boggling to some of us of a certain age that flatwound strings are so "Popular" these days. The real tapewound mystery here is why anyone chooses to buy 'em in the first place.
I just had a giggle when Spellcheck autocorrected "Tapewound" to "Tapeworm" too. Peak A.I..
Careful….:eyebrow:

Clearly, text can't show that the above was written with a wry smile and no disrespect was intended to anyone regarding their personal gear choices ~ horses for courses etc.
The first part was possibly not quite as tongue-in-cheek however. Not necessarily a dig but an observation that people are posting about doing all manner of weird stuff with strings, necks & stuff ~ a lot of which seems genuinely mind-boggling and ultimately pointless. Still, I guess there may be a fledgling Ken Parker in our midst...kinda doubt it though.
Written with nothing but goodwill as always, even if it may appear otherwise.
Enjoy your weekend.

I really don't understand why we have so many comments on here discouraging the guy from pulling the silk off his strings. Yes it's an extra step but I don't really appreciate all the negativity around it. It's not hurting anything and I hope he posts pics after he does it and let's us know what he thinks about the sound. I thought this was talk bass not Karen Bass.

Because he asked….

And name-calling? Is that Talkbass now, too?

I like string experiments. Except those involving ' how much tension before a string breaks' or 'do you worry about strings breaking'. Not naming names he he
I love the mystery of 'what's lurking beneath the surface'. Although the fact at what's under a nylon tape is no longer a mystery per se. But you could always find a dollar bill or an S.O.S under there he he

Back in the day when I first tried tapewounds ( Fender branded, IIRC ) it was no problem removing the tape.

Both times I tried them, some of the wraps came off by themselves after a while.

That was it for those until I tried Labellas a year or so ago.

Wraps haven't sprung on those, yet.
