Convince me not get a DJ Skyline.

I love them! I currently can't get it now because I REALLY want Dark Stars in it, so I have to save up an extra $400. Can someone give me some other basses to consider, though? Also, if you hate the DJ (possible? I think not..) tell me why. I love their butter smooth necks. My only gripe is they weigh a ton, and I've heard JO's don't so much.

They're great, so sorry I wont tell you to stay away from it.
I think the Aero pickups are amazing, and I would recommend you didn't do the Darkstars on it. I would advise you to get one and then decide if you really really don't like the tone and prefer the Darkstar tone.

The Aeros are super versatile and are pretty aggressive but clean and have a lot of good usable sounds from blending both pickups and specially by using the tone knob.

My fave thing about the Dj aside from the sound, are the block inlays and the great fretwork.

I own one and would love to have a JO too. They have more of a traditional jazz sound and are a little more mellow compared to the aggressive DJ.

Oh yeah, and no DONT get a DJ, bad bad boy, dont do it:D

if you don't own a G&L, try one out in the store. I just bought my second, and it's a TOTALLY different beast than the first (Trib SB-2 vs Trib L-2000). If you're looking outside the Leo Fender vib (Sting, J, P) than go for the Lakland, I'd love one myself, but if you don't own an amazing P and an amazing J, pick up a Tribute and an extra cab/amp/preamp/power amp/whatever you need/37 xtra cables and have a ball.

What model did you get?

A few years ago I had the pleasure of attending the Lakland concert, featuring all 5 signature basses on display as being played by those artists whose basses they're named after: Duck Dunn, Jerry Scheff, Bob Glaub, Darryl Jones, and Joe Osborn. Joe Osborn actually played a signature JO with Dark Stars in it, which had an amazing tone. I'm sure the DJ would sound identical to that bass (save a few intangible factors), and you'd be in heaven.

However, I don't know if you've played a Lakland 5-string Skyline or not, or if this is what you're thinking of. If so, I'll be the first to tell you that while many people are at home on it, I found it to be on the "too chunky, coo clunky" side for my tastes. But again, many people find it a very comfortable neck.

YMMV...as always.

Why put Darkstars in it?

My Skyline JO4 weighs 8.25 lbs......call around to some Lakland dealers and see if you can find I light one. I called Bass Central and they hand picked my beauty out for me, has been my #1 bass since I got it 6 months or so ago....mine even has a little birdseye on the neck. The Skyline's do vary in weight like stated above.......I've owned 3......the heaviest being 11 lbs, the lightest being my current one that weighs just a hair over 8 lbs.

:D The only thing is that they don't use Aero's anymore, but I hear they sound the same (haven't played a DJ w/ Aero's so I can't compare). Someone also said they changed the pots from 500 to 250, but I'd probably be getting an Audere, so NBD.

Oh my bad then. It probably sounds great either way.
Hope you figure this out soon and get your dream bass.

Peace.

Do you need this bass?

If you don't need it, you just want it, think about hanging onto your cash. $400 is a lot of dough for pickups. Think about what you could do with that money outside of basses!

Hanging onto cash for what???

House payments? Shoes? Travelling? Partying? Clothing? :scowl:

NONSENSE!:spit:

Get your Lakie man! With Darkstars or without them!

I thought this forum was about basses, not financial advice.
