Cool 60's basses (OTHER than main-stream brands)

This is one of my own retro-inspired builds called the Gilaxis - the bridge stop is from a 60's MIJ (?) bass and it's design is based on a Burns-Weill for the late 50's.

ok those Kay 5921 5925 5930 5935 are calling my name. gonna do some research and scope them out.

how does that "dearmond speed bump" pickup sound? is it treblY? for some reason i associate weedy sounding very trebly pickups with these types of basses.

Depends on the pu but my Teisco's are big and fat sounding - especially through my '76 Ampeg B-15N with the bass up full.

These sound good- note that my frame of reference is with the 5925, which has a single p/u installed in a central position. A bit thinner and raunchier and lower output than a P, which was my main bass at the time. I’ll try and dig around for a recording but suffice to say I gigged this bass without misgivings which suggests (to me at least) that it sounded good.
