Like I said, "Moon Unit" might get you a nastygram from the Zappa family. As in, Moon Unit Zappa, Frank's daughter...

As for the 12v choice...well, you're the builder, that's totally your decision. But speaking as a pedal buyer, I REALLY dislike pedals that need special power supplies, and I am just one of many people with that opinion. Boss type 9v DC, or 18v which is common on power bricks, probably will net you more sales.

All MHO, of course.

Went with Moon Unit, this is a rough draft of the graphics,
I want a dark,Sci-Fi look,we'll put a green LED in the iris of the eyeball,
we moved the clean blend knob to under the gain knob,
So it's a cool 3-2-1 layout now..

I'm not the builder btw, I'm a working bassist, designing a custom pedal with Frequency Central, for my personal use.

the builder is Rick Holt, who's known around the stompbox forums as kind of a tinkerer/genius,and known for using the submini tubes,
he builds tube pedals, he's more known for making mini tube amps..

I know what u mean about the 12 volts,
he had a single tube/9 volt/MOSFET version..way more convenient. It was a very hard choice.. I feel the same way about power. I can plug two cords in, I doubt there's a trex/ voodoo power brick that does both 9 v and
12volt regulated 500MA.

I went with the higher voltage/ dual tube pedal simply because it sounded realllllllllly good.I'm looking for a certain vibe, I've been listening to clips/ youtubes for months, and I didn't want to wind up with tubes, but it sounds goooood!
This fellow knows his electronics.

He tweaked this circuit a lot. Its versatile, From clean boost to B-15
to SVT/ mild OD, to nice, warm, Marshall type classic rock crunch..The "dirt" switch adds fuzz, opens it up to more tones..

Mods/options:
it's got a clean blend,
the 2 band EQ is bypassable with a toggle, so that I could hear the pedal exactly as he designed it without the mods, Rick custom tuned the caps for lows, he's got an active 5 string to test it with..

As for "Moon Unit" I don't think it's a problem, my name is Kevin Moon, it's my unit..!
if Frank's daughter has a problem with it, I'd change it for her.. Frank rules.

I cant find the email with the clips he sent me, but I did find these clips online, they're all guitar clips, but they kinda give the vibe of the pedal,
This is all written about the original guitar version of the pedal:

First off, you'll notice that it has switchable diode clipping, this idea was suggested to me by Derringer, so I tried it and it worked well, adding a bit of sizzle to the boost and overdrive. There is a slight volume loss when the 'Dirt' switch is engaged, though there's enough boost in the circuit to compensate for this.

This design originally started out as a low voltage circuit, as it developed I thought it would be nice to get the voltages a little higher, so I added a little charge pump circuit based around a MAX1044 to get up to around 35 volts. Thanks to R.G. for his +18, +25, or +33 from one 9V battery on which the charge pump circuit is based.

The tonestack is based on the BM tonestack, with just a few value changes to suit the circuit.

What does it do? Well it does clean boost with the Gain set at minimum, flick on the Dirt switch and you get some nice diode clipping too. Turn up the Gain and you'e into overdrive territory with diode clipping, flick the Dirt switch off and you get even more overdrive. All with some nice tonal variations courtesy of the tonestack. So many types of dirty, hence the name "Promiscuous Girlfriend"
