Martin Mull R.I.P.
Damn. I missed that. I actually played (trombone) behind him, in Harrah's Tahoe orchestra in maybe the early '80s. He had a homey little set around him on stage, a small table w/ a shaded lamp, and an easy chair, like he was at home in his study. On the table were a few magazines. Ted Kennedy was pondering running for President in those days, so I brought in an old issue of Reader's Digest with a cover story about the Chappaquiddick incident. A few minutes before curtain up I handed it to Martin and asked him if he'd heard what Kennedy had responded when asked if he would seek the nomination. He hadn't heard. "I'll drive off that bridge when I come to it." Martin chuckled warmly, thanked me, and placed the Digest on his little table. He was a sweet guy.
