Debbie Harry and Chris Stein once attempted to remake Jean-Luc Godard's film Alphaville (1965) with Robert Fripp of King Crimson.
In 1979, the two became interested in Godard's film and thought Robert Fripp would be perfect for the role of Lemmy Caution and Debbie Harry for the role of Natacha von Braun. The project included Amos Poe as the director. Poe was a filmmaker active in NY's underground scene in the 1970s and had worked with Harry on the documentary The Blank Generation (1976), which captured the NY punk movement, and the film Unmade Beds (1976), The Foreigner (1978).
Ultimately, the film was never made, but stills from the screen test made the front page of Melody Maker on December 23, 1978.
Harry also mentioned this remake project in her autobiography Face It (2020), where she explained that when she directly pitched the idea to Godard, he responded, "You're out of your mind," and the project fell apart.
