A little bit of cool ZZ Top trivia.

The original ZZ Top line-up was formed in Houston, TX and consisted of Gibbons, bassist/organist Lanier Greig, and drummer Dan Mitchell.

They released their first single, "Salt Lick", in 1969, and the B-side contained the song "Miller's Farm". Immediately after the recording of "Salt Lick", Greig was replaced by bassist Billy Ethridge and Mitchell was replaced by Frank Beard. Ethridge quit the band and Dusty Hill was selected as his replacement. So, Gibbons, Beard, and Hill became the new ZZ Top lineup in late 1969. They performed their first concert together at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beaumont, TX on February 10, 1970 and the rest is history as they say.

One of the things I remember from that old bootleg was James firing one of the sax players - guy finished a solo, and James yells "Take that pointy li'l horn and git outta here!!!". I think the guy played the solo a little too jazz...

That would be Norma-Jean Wofford (c. 1942 – April 30, 2005) was an American guitarist who played with Bo Diddley and his band from 1962 to 1966. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was Bo Diddley's second female guitarist replacing Peggy Jones (a.k.a. Lady Bo). ... As a response, he enlisted Miss Wofford, nicknamed her "The Duchess".

Except Ray actually hit the right notes. This brings back memories for me. In 1966 I worked at the Arcade Record Shop in Oxnard for concert promoter Jim Salzer. He hired the Seeds for a concert and talked them into making a live appearance at the record store to sign autographs from 2pm to 4pm on the Saturday of their concert. The record store was a very tiny mall arcade shop maybe 20 by 20 feet. My brother and his best friend showed up and that was all. Just the three of us and the four Seeds. I don't think they signed one autograph. Didn't do a lot for their ego.
