Both good bands IMO. Who knows, it could have been an off night for XTC. I have seen REM live and agree with you, their show was something special.
They handed out these cards at a Femmes/Echo show in Philly...
Tommy Stinson of the Replacements. Looks to be about 1986 here, so he's 19/20 years old, and already been gigging with the 'Mats for 5 years. THAT'S rock and roll.

Great, great collection of photo's here. That birds eye pic of the Beatles on stage; I haven't seen that one since I first saw it in a magazine when I was in junior high school around 1966 or so. At the time I remember thinking "look at all the equipment they have!!"
