^ Somehow I doubt they were listening to rock 'n roll. It was probably Beethoven or Mozart most likely. Unless... you're in that picture?
No, I am not in that picture. I was only 1 year old in 1957.
However, when I was in junior and senior high school in the late 60s and early 70s, we did listen to rock and roll in music class. In addition, my senior high school had a record player built into the wall in the cafeteria with a sound system throughout the large room. Students would bring in albums and play them during lunch periods. Nothing like hearing Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, etc. while eating. Also, the bus I rode to high school had an 8-Track player installed by one of the students and we listened to tapes to and from school.

I had a music theory and harmony class as a senior in 1973-1974. The music room had all top quality music gear that was purchased when the school was opened in 1970. The music teachers made sure that great gear was bought throughout the years. We would have jam sessions and I got to play a Fender Precision Bass through an Ampeg SVT Bass Amp. Good times!
Very cool! In high school, I played bass for the show choir for three years, and got to play a 1971 Fender Jazz (bound & blocked!) through a 1x15 Kustom combo amp. In 1971, I was in a band and bought myself an Epiphone short scale bass (which I still own) and a Kustom combo amp with blue Naugahyde like these.

I was in a tribute band and we played 63 of his songs. Our singer had his voice down beautifully it was almost scary at times. Beautiful perfect bass lines.
