I wonder if this was an Elvis tribute, since he died a couple months earlier.
And like Jerry Scheff, he's played with both Elvises.

Back in the late 90's I got to jam w/ David Hidalgo when Los Lobos was in town. My geetar player owned a music [instrument] store that the band visited earlier in the day. He mentioned our gig later that night and damned if DH didn't show up.
In the middle of a blues shuffle solo, David Hildalgo unplugged from the Fender Deluxe Reverb and plugged straight into the PA head. The result was an absolutely amazing T Bone Walker tone out of the borrowed vintage Strat. We were blown away and it was a real treat.
