It's a still taken during their appearance on the British TV music program "Ready Steady Go!", which had its last broadcast at the end of December, 1966. RSG's existence coincided with the British Beat Boom era(aka 'The British Invasion' in the US), and went off the air on the eve of the psychedelic era. After having formed in the summer of 1966, Cream's initial single was bit of pop fluff entitled "Wrapping Paper", released in the autumn, and their spot on RSG was most likely a lip-synch performance, as initially they were promoted as just another pop group(no actual footage exists, as far as I know). All the visual clues are there as well, their relatively conservative, pre-psychedelic look(Clapton sporting his Blues Breaker-era 'moptop' hair and Les Paul; Ginger and Jack with their shorter hair and Jack's Fender VI bass used early on only). This is how they looked two years later in 1968 at the end of their run...

...burned out, longer hair, hippie clothes, ready to pack it in.

I captured that using hyper snap from the video so it is not a still and in it Jack plays a total different bass line one I had not heard before. I am just going by the date posted whether it was the real date I have no way of knowing I was only 10 years old then ha ha ha I will look up the video and post it
