I never expected that looking like a pinhead would be so fashionable, but I guess Pepper became America's sweetheart. Zippy predicted it.

At least Peters and company had hair, and also knew how to shave. As outlandish as certain 80's hairstyles seemed to have been, there was at least some flair to it, some creativity, and styles were varied. Just because you can grow a beard(that in itself proves nothing)doesn't mean it's an automatic good look.

Jim Peterik has written and co-written many songs for other bands including .38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackhawk, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, Dennis DeYoung, Van Zant, Brian Wilson, REO Speedwagon, The Beach Boys, and others.

OK. Watched this video yesterday. Several comments.

1) Good show. Worth the time. Lawrence Gowan was very good. A bit of a showman, plays keys with his back to the keyboard. Good voice. Decent keyboard player.

2) Tommy Shaw and James Young were Tommy Shaw and James Young. Still love 'em both.

3) Really good bass player (Ricky Phillips). Also a very good background vocalist. Played a double neck 12 and 6er on one song, when...

4) they brought out original bassist (and brother of sadly departed original drummer, John Panozzo (the only reason Chuck made it into the group in the first place)) Chuck Panozzo for one song. He remains the bassist with the least personality ever. He was never really any good, and still isn't.

5) Talented drummer.

6) Worst audience ever. Filmed in a cool theater, but the crowd could have been right out of a cheesy casino showroom. I don't know how Styx managed to keep up the energy level with that crowd. What a downer. Complete opposite of the 1997 Rosemont Horizon "Return To Paradise" crowd, who were totally engaged, start to finish.

Here's that show. It rocked. [Note: the DVD had with worst 5.1 channel surround mix ever. The entire bass track was routed to the .1 subwoofer channel. I had to watch it using the 2-channel stereo track.]
